Student Laptop Initiative Requirement

Suggested Specifications for Student Laptops

As of Fall 2012 - All students are required to attend school equipped with a laptop as part of their collection of tools for success. BYU-Hawaii recognizes the importance of technology and the part it plays in preparing our students for future roles in society.

The only requirement is that it must be able to connect to the network using 802.1x wireless authentication. Below are some suggested specifications. If you are a freshman or sophomore and you already have a laptop you do not have to purchase another one if it doesn't meet these specifications. However, some majors may have greater requirements for their upper level classes.

CIS Laptop Computer Policy

CIS majors (CS, IT, IS, CIS) have their own laptop requirements. Please refer to this CIS laptop requirement link for more information. Other majors may have additional computing requirements in upper-division classes.
