Hawaii callers are now required to start dialing 808 whenever they make local phone calls — including those made to phone numbers on the same island. This means that placing a local (Oahu) call from a BYUH office phone requires you to dial 9 808 and then the seven-digit phone number.
This new requirement was to begin on the evening of Saturday, October 23, however, some carriers have already made the change. It is in preparation for a change by the Federal Communications Commission which has adopted 988 as the new three-digit nationwide number to get in touch with the National Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Crisis Lifeline. That number will be activated on July 16, 2022.
